3 SEO Mistakes That Can Penalize Your Site’s Rankings

3 SEO Mistakes That Can Penalize Your Site’s Rankings

Even with the explosive growth of Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites, search engines continue to drive an enormous volume of targeted traffic. If you can harness that traffic and direct it to the right places, you’ll increase your clicks, sales, and profit. Thousands of marketers are using search engine optimization strategies to squeeze 6-figure incomes – and sometimes, much more – from their online businesses. You can do the same.

Having said that, there are several SEO tripwires that can ensnare you and lead to ranking penalties. Once penalty 3 SEO Mistakes That Can Penalize Your Sites Rankingsyour sites become penalized, you’ll fight an uphill battle to recover your organic positions. Today, I’ll help you avoid three of the most damaging SEO mistakes I see others making.

#1 – Aggressive Interlinking Between Your Sites

Inbound links are important. They help lift your pages higher in Google’s index for your keywords. The problem is that many online marketers become overzealous in building those links. They’ll purchase dozens of domains, place them on the same server (and even the same IP!), and aggressively interlink them.

Google views this strategy as an attempt to “game” their algorithm. That’s dangerous. They’re a multi-billion dollar company with shareholders. They will do whatever is necessary to protect their organic listings from those who are trying to “game” them.

A few relevant links between thematically-related sites are valuable. Aggressive interlinking between them can lead to a ranking penalty.

#2 – Over-optimization Of Your Core Keywords

Placing your main keywords into your title tags, H1 tags, and throughout your pages’ content is a critical piece of search engine optimization. So too, is putting your keywords into the anchor text of your inbound links. However, if you over-optimize your pages, your entire site can be penalized by Google (and possibly, Yahoo! as their algorithm evolves).

Unfortunately, the organic search algorithms remain hidden from the public. That means there’s no definite optimization line in the sand across which you know you cannot step. If there were, everyone would know how to perfectly optimize their sites for the search engines.

Here’s my advice: continue placing your core keywords within your titles and H1 tags. Seed your keywords throughout your content, but worry less about matching a particular density. Off-page, build your inbound links with varying anchor text. The last thing you want is to have your entire inbound link profile featuring the same anchor. That raises a red flag at Google.

For more in depth information on Inbound link building I recommend you read my SEO BOOK By Visiting here!

#3 – Unnatural Inbound Link Profile

Place yourself in Google’s shoes. A large portion of their organic ranking algorithm is devoted to links. They know millions of webmasters want higher rankings and will try to manipulate the algorithm to achieve them. The challenge (for Google) is to give ranking authority to sites that have a natural link profile while suppressing sites with an unnatural profile. So, how do you avoid building an unnatural inbound link profile?

I mentioned anchor text above; using the same anchor for every inbound link is unnatural. It raises a flag. If all of your links are reciprocal, that too, raises a flag. If every link pointing to your site is within footers, or points to your home page, your link profile will seem lopsided. If your site receives an explosion of inbound links, Google’s algorithm will likely find that odd. The more you can do to build a natural link profile, the better rankings you’ll enjoy over time.

SEO remains one of the best internet marketing strategies for driving targeted traffic. But, optimizing your sites for the search engines is no longer a simple science. It has become complex. That’s good news because your competitors are less willing – or unable – to do what is necessary to rank well.

Keep the mistakes I’ve described today in mind when optimizing your sites. In a future post, I’ll give you a few tips for further juicing your rankings.

On-page Search Engine Optimization

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

lady1 On page Search Engine OptimizationI’ve always underlined the power of having great content. Your content should be a very interesting grapevine for the community of your chosen niche, and not a lifeless fact sheet. However, no matter how mouth-watering your content is, if there is nobody to read it, it won’t make you a cent. Traffic is the heart of your blog especially if you really want to make money with Google AdSense. In order to attract people, you must simply offer above average content. However, to get traffic onto your site, you have to think backwards. Where do people look when they need information? Of course they search using search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN, to name just a few popular ones.

So, to attract these folks to your blog, your blog needs to rank high on search result pages of these search engines. When people search for information through the search engines and see your site among the top results, they will naturally click through to your blog! The art of getting your blog or website onto high rankings on search result pages is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

It could be quite a complex subject to master, but that doesn’t stop us from learning simple yet effective techniques to conquer the search results for certain keywords.Tougher techniques are usually needed to fight for very competitive and general keywords such as “make money”, but I’ll teach you how to overcome that later. For now, let’s determine the keywords that you want to optimize your site for. For instance, your blog says make money. Now, you’d want to check in Google whether it is a very competitive keyword. As of now, there are 227,000,000 search results. Do you think you can beat 227,000,000 sites at your first attempt? I doubt it.

Now, let’s try to narrow down our scope. Let’s look for “Make Money with Google AdSense” instead. Right now Google lists 3,440,000 results. That’s more manageable, but you’d like to search for more focused keywords. However, let’s optimize your blog to Make Money with Google AdSense just for the sake of learning.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization Bible On page Search Engine Optimization

First, you have to pay attention to the title of your blog. Since you’re optimizing to Make Money with Google AdSense you need to have that actual phrase in your blog title. For example, a line like “Learn How to Make Money with Google AdSense!” would work fine.

You can change the title of your blog in the Blogger control panel or the Wordpress blog when you’re creating it. If you’re proficient with HTML, you can even do that on other blog engines like Movable Type. What is the bottom line? Your page heading should also contain the term you’re optimizing for. Additionally, you should ‘sprinkle’ the words “Google AdSense” in your posts whenever possible.

The frequency of that phrase in your blog hints the search engines that your blog is really relevant to that topic. However, this is the most important bit of all. Always keep in mind that you’re writing for real life people who read your blog to obtain information, so it is very dumb to spam your blog with keywords! In fact, if you do that, the search engines will end up thinking you’re spamming and drop your ranking further down into oblivion. Hence write for humans, not search engines!

There’s no way you can make money online if you don’t value how SEO works!

How to get Top search engine rankings in the search engines.

web How to get High Search Engine Rankings Ranking high in the search engines is the most sought out goal of everyone that begins a website. To rank high and have traffic coming to your site for particular niched keywords is the goal and the desired effect of all sites no matter the topic. All sites want to reach the maximum effect exposure and profit.

Many however build websites too quickly with out any planning of a web plan as I would call it. To help them achieve the one goal that they seek. High search engine rankings combined with high search engine traffic. To achieve the desired the result in a short amount of time and not years or even year then you need to follow the steps that I am about to lay out.

I have enough websites to know that with proper search engine optimization and a little bit of research before you even begin your site can bring about a huge help in organic search engine traffic over time.

Many of the techniques that I use are used by many on their websites, however many don’t use them in a particular order. In which I am encouraging you to do once you build your site then you will have a highly effective website optimization plan.

You might ask well what are these tips and tools that I use.

First before you begin your site your site you need to know exactly what it is that you are trying to convey or sell. What is your purpose for the site, and the reason of why you even want a website.

Second once you realize what are going to do, you need to do market research and search out other websites that are doing the same thing you are doing and look for the high rankings ones and the ones that are niched a little more. See what they are doing and how you can be different. Learn from them and study how their site compares to the smaller ones listed in the same niche. Contrast and compare so that you can see exactly what will help you to rank high and what to avoid along with what will make you different.

Third once you complete your market research to even see if what you have is something that people even want to know about, because you do not want to have site that no one is even searching for right….. You need to complete keyword research. Find out exactly what keywords are ranking high in the area that are trying to build a site and keep these keywords handy because you will use them in your following steps.

Fourth choose a domain name based on the keywords that are ranking high for whatever it is that you are trying to sell or convey. For example poodle.com are poodleblogs.com is a longer one, but a little more niched and will give you a quicker chance of getting those high rankings. Since, you have poodle as the main keyword name then a subtopic which is something a little more unique then just poodle.

Fifth build your site using a content management system such as wordpress or blogger although I prefer blogger over all the others any day. Invest in the time or money to have a professional site set up for you with all the great seo plugin’s and that will help give you a quick start in website optimization.

Sixth use the keywords that you had earlier and build content around your site “articles” at least 30 to start off with – to give your blog a boost in traffic. Submit them to article directories and see if you can guest blog with a link intact on other similar sites.

Seventh place your site in web directories, blog directories, and use social media to give yourself a huge boost. Such as twitter, Squidoo and facebook.

Eventually over the next couple of months with continued effort of placing related content in your niche and linking to sites with links back to your site from sites in the same field. You will see a growth of traffic and the high ranking coming in that you wanted.

Everlasting PR Plan Special Report

Press Release Mis-steps – What you don’t know can make all the difference
By Patrysha Korchinski

As a publicist, my job is to help my clients get media coverage. The tool I use most often on their behalf is the simple, but highly effective, press release. What I do isn’t rocket science; seeking publicity can be an in-house job for most small business owners.

Press releases can seem like a panacea for small business owners. The prospect of getting free publicity in exchange for a couple of hours of writing and submitting a 400 word release seems like a great deal. And on the surface – it is a great deal.

The publicity generated from one release picked up by a major media outlet can increase awareness and sales with a far greater impact than buying advertising in the same outlet.

Under the surface though, lurk thousand of disappointed publicity seekers who for one reason or another did not get the coverage they desired.

I used to believe that the reasons for the failed attempts lay mostly, if not entirely, on the message within the release.

The headline wasn’t strong enough
It read like a sales pitch rather than news
The subject wasn’t newsworthy

While those are definitely factors that will get your press release a one-way ticket to the circular file, most serious business owners I’ve met don’t fall victim to these mistakes. They took the time to craft newsworthy releases that were topical, relevant and well-written. They had the initiative to create a targeted media list to submit to – and yet still they struggled to get coverage.

What was going on?

It was only when I dug deeper and examined other aspects of their failed efforts that a few trends began to emerge. There are factors in press release pick up that the professional publicist innately utilizes for the benefit of their clients that most small business owners just aren’t aware of.

The timing of your submission is one component that is often to blame for poor results. You see, each media outlet has what is called a lead time. This is how far in advance they need to start working on stories that will eventually appear. Magazines with a large circulation tend to have the longest lead times, often 9 months or longer. If you send out a release geared towards Christmas to a major magazine in November, you’ve missed your window of opportunity by eight months!
You don’t necessarily need a publicist to get over these hurdles, you just need to be aware of what hurdles exist. Overcoming them is usually a fairly simple matter. As I said before, getting media coverage is not rocket science. You can improve your odds significantly with a little fine tuning.

Website Optimization

What Is Website Optimization?

SEO, is a term that is not relatively new, but it is not well understood either. People get confused between keyword phrases, spiders, and algorithmic. However, it is not a hard concept once you grasp it and begin to utilize the principles of Search Engine Optimization.

To put it plainly Search engine optimization is the process of improving traffic to a website from search engines like Google, Yahoo, via “natural search results for targeted key words. What one does, in essence, when it comes to website optimization, is optimize a web site by improving certain aspects of the site in order to boost the traffic received from search engines.

Bottom line Web Optimization is all about creating a quality site so that people locate your information on the web.

Seo for the search engines- Yahoo!

As we covered in the first lesson on seo for the search engines Google, we covered many of the factors that would likely cause one to rank high in Google. Some of those search engine optimization factors include having good quality content on your site. Having great content is key for Google since they make up and send the most traffic to sites. It is the largest search engine and therefore should not be taken lightly. I always say when you do decide to optimize your site, optimize your site for Google first, then the others will fall into play.

However, when and if you do decide to optimize your site for yahoo, there are a few certain seo techniques that you should consider. For one we all know that the algorithms are constantly changing and many of the search engines look at keywords in the description tag, some the header tag and so on and so forth. With yahoo you can still be rest assured that keywords are a big element that comes into play when optimizing your site for them. As with Google who loves relevant links and quality on page factors. Yahoo loves keywords placed throughout the Meta tag, title tag, and description tag about your site and especially keywords in your domain name. This lets them know what your site is about and how and where to place your site.

7 28 2008 11 34 59 pm3 Seo for the search engines Yahoo!

But don’t be too quick to think that is all there is to ranking with yahoo, because it is not. Yahoo will not even find you’re unless it is listed and has links from other sites. Directories are big and known with yahoo; try to get your site listed in as many relevant niche directories as you can. And you will find your site being listed a whole lot quicker in yahoo and ranked a little higher also. Many people pay around 200.00 to 250.00 to have their site listed in the yahoo directories. Which in my opinion can help if you get listed, but there is no guarantee that you will even if you pay the money. So if you do decide to pay make sure you have a domain keyword rich website name.

One way to see what pages if you have any listed in yahoo is to do a search using:

site:www.yoursite.com

In the search engine browser. To see what pages yahoo sees linking to your page use

linkdomain://www.yoursite.com

Yahoo owns alltheweb and AltaVista so getting listed in them you are also likely to be listed in them as well. So focus on quality keyword page factors, and off page relevant directories listings.

Seo for Search Engines

Getting listed in the search engines is first main focus of any site owner, but getting listed in the search engines fast and in the right one can be time consuming. It takes a little research to know how to do it right to avoid the Google sandbox even if there is such a thing.

However, one thing you do need to know is that older websites can and most hold higher rank or superiority over newer websites, Especially in Google. So no matter how much you optimize your site to be better than your competitors with the right keywords and seo tips. Your older competition can seem do better than you for quite sometime unless you focus down more into a sub-niche. Then you can see results quicker, for example instead of “internet marketing” how about “internet marketing courses”.

The long- tail keyword can be used for domain name or even keywords throughout your site to bring in traffic quicker to your landing page. However, the focus of the article is to bring out how to get rankings in Google and correctly.

For one Google loves content and good linking structures. You need to make sure you have a natural linking strategy in place when it comes to Google. Just sending out the same articles to hundreds of directories is not going to cut it when it comes to Google. Most of the times they only give rank from a couple of directories anyhow to avoid duplicate content issues. So even if you do get the links it is best to just keep your links coming form article marketing down to about 20% of your marketing campaign.

The next thing you need to do is to purchase links from niche related directories in your field and optimize your pages for the correct related keywords you are trying to target.

One quick tip is offer on your site a reciprocal link exchange for other site owners to publish your article on their site.

Google loves great content and a natural link building structure, If you can build this naturally and quickly then kudos’ to you. Because no matter if your site is new a good natural link strategy and constant good content you can expect to see rankings pretty quickly.
