Autoresponder Sequences That Generates Results

If you’re on a lot of email lists, you’ve seen firsthand how badly email marketing is handled. Even some of the marketing “gurus” get it wrong. Either they pummel their lists with an endless stream of promotions or they neglect to mail their lists at all. In the former case, their unsubscribe rate skyrockets. In the latter case, their lists fail to generate any revenue.

There’s a much better way.

I’ve explained in the past how to use autoresponder sequences to drive traffic to your email sequence Anatomy Of An Autoresponder Sequence That Generates Resultswebsites. Today, we’re going to dig more deeply and take a look at the anatomy of a successful sequence. I’m not going to provide a day-by-day recipe because every niche is different. Instead, you’ll discover the key ingredients that will have your readers looking forward to your emails. And that’s the secret to generating clicks, sales, and affiliate commissions.

Deliver High-Caliber Value Upfront

When someone opts into your sequence, they expect to receive something of value. This is a critical stage and will influence how that person perceives all of your future messages. If you fail to meet her expectations, you’ll lose credibility. She’ll unsubscribe or worse, ignore your future emails. If you give her something of value, you’ll earn her trust. She’ll keep reading your emails… for awhile.

Imagine what would happen if you were to exceed her expectations and deliver a series of emails that are packed with so much value, you could bundle and sell them as an ebook. You would earn her trust for months. She would read your emails, click your links, and consider buying the products you’re promoting.

Front-load each of your email sequences with five to seven messages that are overflowing with value. No promotions. Only value. The time you invest will pay dividends later through your subscribers’ loyalty.

Leave Readers Wanting More

Have you heard marketers complaining that their email open and clickthrough rates have dropped like a rock? Here’s why: they’re failing to excite their subscribers. Lacking a reason to open their emails, subscribers ignore or delete them. The emails in your autoresponder sequences should always leave your readers wanting more. Stimulate their curiosity so they’ll look forward to, and open, your messages.

If you’re using an autoresponder like Aweber, you’ll have the tools you need at your disposal. You can personalize each message and schedule them to go out whenever you wish.

Here’s an example of how to use your sequence to generate excitement in your subscribers…

Suppose you’re targeting the “weight loss” niche. You have a squeeze page or similar opt-in strategy in place to attract names and emails. You schedule a message to go out that shares a weight loss tip with your subscribers. Two days later, another email is scheduled to go out. Imagine if the first of the two messages ended with, “Melissa, in a couple of days, I’m going to share a secret that I used to lose 17 lbs. in only 22 days. Keep your eyes open for that email. You’re going to love it.”

In two days’ time, when “Melissa” receives your message, she’s going to open it. In fact, she’ll put aside whatever she’s working on to open it.

Stimulate excitement. Prep your subscribers. Always leave them wanting more from you.

Mix It Up And Sell The Click

Think of the different ways you can entice subscribers who have opted into your email sequences. You can promise to send them Special Reports, videos, and audio interviews. Each of these is an email click1 Anatomy Of An Autoresponder Sequence That Generates Resultsopportunity to motivate your subscribers to click a link.

That small action gets them involved. It transforms them from passive readers into active participants. And that’s when the sales process begins.

For example, suppose you have promised to send your subscribers a secret weight loss tip in 3 days. They’re expecting the tip to be included within the email. Instead, schedule a message to go out that says, “Melissa, remember that secret weight loss tip I promised you 3 days ago? Well, there’s a lot to it, so I put it into a 7-page Special Report for you. Click the following link to get your PDF. I think you’ll enjoy it.”

This tactic works just as effectively to drive traffic to videos, audio content, and pages on your site that are “hidden from the public.” It also works to send sequence subscribers to product sales pages. Get them involved. Mix up your content and sell the click.

Autoresponder sequences are a powerful tool. Make sure you’re providing high-caliber value upfront and that you do everything possible to stimulate the curiosity and response of your subscribers.

I have two more tips about sequences that you’re going to need in order to maximize their impact. I’ll share them with in the near future.  (See what I did there?)

Tips For Using Email Sequences To Generate Income

Most marketers are not leveraging email sequences to their full potential. In their defense, there are myriad other ways to drive traffic and sales. For example, search engine optimization strategies, pay per click marketing, and social media optimization all offer powerful ways to reach your audience. But, they require email sequence Tips For Using Email Sequences To Generate Incomeongoing tracking and maintenance; in the case of PPC advertising, there’s also an ongoing cost.

By contrast, email sequences can be automated. If your emails are targeted and compelling, they’ll deliver a  continuous stream of traffic that generates passive income. What’s more, the larger your lists grow, the more income you’ll generate. Here are two ideas for integrating email sequences into your current online business.

#1 – Driving Traffic To Adsense Sites

Adsense continues to be one of the easiest ways to generate passive income. However, the days of building a 20-page content site, submitting a few articles for links, and waiting for waves of search engine traffic are coming to an end. While your competitors struggle to maintain their lagging rankings, take the road less traveled. Design an email sequence for each of your Adsense sites.

Your sequence does not have to be complicated. It only needs to compel subscribers to visit your site on a regular basis. For example, suppose you have a content site about workers compensation. Income is generated by Adsense clicks. Create an autoresponder sequence that delivers emails twice weekly. Each email should be short enough to motivate subscribers to visit a specific page on your site.

Next, set up a Google Alert to keep up with current news in the workers compensation field. You’ll have an endless supply of new material to add to your site with which draw subscribers back.

Be sure to experiment with your emails to improve your clickthrough rate. Writing style, form, length, and layout all play a role. As your list of subscribers grows, so too will your repeat traffic and Adsense income.

#2 – Pushing Subscribers Through Your Marketing Funnel

I’ve mentioned creating an inventory of products at varying price points. There is a powerful psychological reason for doing so. As you know, it is far easier to motivate a current customer to buy another product from you than to entice a new prospect to make a first purchase. Furthermore, each subsequent purchase a customer makes nudges them further up the comfort ladder. In effect, the more they buy, the more comfortable they are buying from you. Email sequences can be designed to encourage your customers to move further along your marketing funnel.

For example, suppose you maintain a site in the weight loss space. You have created a number of Special Reports, ebooks, print manuals, and DVDs that range in price from $7 to $127. A large portion of first-time visitors might be willing to spend $7 for a Special Report. Few would be willing to part with $127 for a package of DVDs. Your email sequence can help maximize the lifetime value of each customer. Here’s how:

Create a small 10-page report and offer it to visitors in exchange for opting into your autoresponder sequence. Within a few days of the opt-in, schedule an email that points out a specific idea mentioned in your report. For example, it might say, “Hi Bob, just wanted to make sure you enjoyed my report and saw the tip on page 7.” A few days later, send another automated message that encourages “Bob” to check out your new $17 ebook that goes into far more detail about the items mentioned in your report.

When Bob purchases your $17 ebook, shift his opt-in to a customer email sequence. Then, use the same principles to graduate him to your next information product along your marketing funnel (a $27/month membership site, perhaps). The more Bob buys from you, the more open he’ll be to buying your higher-priced products. With each product he buys, shift his opt-in to a new email sequence that works to graduate him to the next product.

We’ve only scratched the surface here. My goal was to jumpstart your creativity in designing email sequences that expand your income base. There are many more ways to use them and we’ll explore how you can do so in the near future.
