If you know or may not know writing press releases is a great way to get your site on the map by getting deep back links to your sites. Developing press releases for your niche topics will go a long way in developing in your brand your image and getting your company noticed.

Press releases can be written on any topic, a new site that just got finished. A new show, some new products and so forth as long as everything you are promoting comes from you.

Earlier this year, Wired Magazine ran a piece on Google’s algorithm. That piece focused on the manner in which the algorithm has evolved since the late 1990s. In the early years, major algo changes were deployed once a month (roughly). These days, changes occur much more frequently. According to Matt Cutts, one of the most prolific Google engineers, hundreds of changes happened in 2009 alone.

Recently, Google unleashed their Mayday update. This is a big one. Cutts has publicly stated it’s going to stick for the long run. Today, I’ll explain exactly what the Mayday update means for your search positions (and traffic!), and three things you should start doing as soon as possible.

Driving Search Traffic Through The Long Tail

If you’re doing SEO, there’s a good chance you’re pulling organic search traffic by ranking for long tails. For example, rather than building a page for “dog food,” you may be optimizing it for “dog food for active puppies.” The individual long-tail keywords attract small trickles of targeted traffic. Together, the trickles add up to a stream. Convert the stream and you can make thousands of dollars each month with affiliate sales, Adsense sites, or your own information products.

The Mayday update affects the long tail of search. For this reason, it’s bound to hit a lot of internet marketers where it hurts the most: their organic traffic.

First, a quick clarification. Mayday is a change to Google’s ranking algorithm, not the algorithms used for crawling and indexing your pages. In Cutts’s own words, Mayday is “an algorithmic change in Google, looking for higher quality sites to surface for long tail queries.”

So, what does “higher quality” mean? Google has always been upfront in showing their preference for content-heavy sites (e.g. About.com). But it’s worth noting the thematic portion of their ranking algorithm is not the main lever they use to determine quality. They use inbound links from authoritative – or credible – sites.

This has been the case for years, but the Mayday update has thrust this to the forefront of ranking your long-tail pages. If you have recently noticed your long-tail traffic dropping, it’s time to make some changes.

3 Actions You Should Take Today

Typically, whenever Google deploys a major update (for example, Caffeine), it’s a good idea to watch the results before making a move. This is because they test, tweak, and make changes before rolling out to all of their datacenters. Occasionally, they even back out large pieces of the update. Mayday is different. The changes we’re seeing in the results today are likely to stick or become more pronounced. With that in mind, here are the three steps to take today…

#1 – Expand Your Content

If you have 200 words on a page, you’re going to need much more if you hope to rank in the future. If you’re building database sites or product-focused ecommerce sites (e.g. Amazon.com), make sure your individual pages are loaded with plenty of thematic, high-quality content.

Here’s the litmus test: ask yourself whether a visitor is better off for visiting and reading your page. If not, consider adding heft to your content.

#2 – Build Links To Your Internal Pages

Inbound links to your site’s internal pages have been important as a ranking factor for years. However, the Mayday update increases the priority. Whether you’re using social media sites, article directories, blogs, or press releases to build links, make sure you include “deep links” to your site’s pages. This is a major facet in how Google determines quality.

#3 – Watch The Top Search Positions

Assuming you’re watching your traffic numbers (and if you’re not, you should be), you may have noticed some of your long-tail pages’ positions dropping due to Mayday. Take a look at the pages in the search results that have overtaken your rankings. Chances are, they have more inbound links from sites that Google considers credible. If you intend to reclaim your positions, this is the place to start.

The Mayday update is opening the door for a lot of internet marketers. For every page that plummets in the rankings, another climbs to take its spot. Focus on high-quality content; build deep links to internal pages; and watch the search results for your targeted long tails. Months from now, you’ll look at your organic traffic stats and be glad you took these steps.

Well its May and this month over at the sswt fourm if you may or may not know we are given challenges every month to do. This months challenge is to produce your own info product and set it up for sale with its own salespage, thank you page, order page etc……

You can either pick your own niche or write your own report for the info product or you could use private label right content to make your product and not write anything at all. There are so many ways to make an info product, you could write it yourself, use a virtual assistant or like I said before use plr.

Many in the group or almost done with completing there very first information product but since I already I have my own info products, in fact I have two of them. Seo skills unleashed and My video marketing concepts are two different products teaching two different things. My goal was to take those two products and get them more traffic using clickbank and some of their resources.

So seriously if you are even thinking about making a product to place on clickbank then you might want to read this guide. I don’t recommend anything that I have not read or tried myself.

There’s a lot of money to be made in the top search positions for certain niches. The problem is, those top positions are hard to maintain. The more competitive your niche, the more difficult it is to protect your rankings from others.

If you neglect the pages on your sites that are ranking well for competitive keywords, they will slip over time. As they slip, so too, will your traffic volume. Less traffic translates into fewer conversions and lower income from your online business.

Let’s nip this problem in the bud. Today, let’s focus on how you can prevent your competitors from usurping your hard-earned positions in the search engines.

Keep Building Incoming Links

Each of your pages and sites has an inbound link profile. This profile includes the number of links pointing to a particular page, and the anchor text used in those links. It also includes the authority of the site pointing to that page. Another key piece of your link profile is the pace with which inbound links grow. If the pace slows down, it implies (in the search engines’ eyes) that you’re losing authority in your space.

This data is used by Google to determine whether your page “deserves” a given position.

Keep building high-quality links to your top-ranking pages. If your competitors’ link profiles begin to outdistance your own, the age of your domain and authority of your site may not be enough to protect your listings.

Add Girth To Your Site

Google considers the size of your site when ranking your individual pages. Essentially, more pages suggests more authority. For this reason, add additional pages on a regular basis and make sure to include them in your normal link structure.

This tactic has the added benefit of expanding your keyword coverage. For example, suppose you’re targeting the keyword “weight loss.” Add pages about “weight loss after pregnancy,” “weight loss for teens,” and similar phrases. This adds girth to your site. As long as the pages are related to your site’s theme, they’ll improve your authority (again, in Google’s eyes).

Improve SERP Clickthroughs And Prevent Visitors From Clicking Back

Here’s an area of search engine optimization that few people talk about. The reason is because there’s a lot of confusion and a lack of reliable data.

First, the higher your clickthrough rate (CTR) from Google’s pages, the more likely Google is to support your page’s current position or push it higher. Second, a lower bounce rate – that is, when people land on your page and hit their browser’s back button – has a similar effect.

If you’re using Google Analytics on your sites, you’ll have this data at your fingertips. Beyond the data, though, it’s important to realize why Google seems to reward a high CTR and low bounce rate. They do so (presumably) because both factors suggest a better user experience. If people are clicking on your search listing, that means they’re engaged by it. If your visitors don’t immediately bounce back to Google, that implies they have found value in your site.

Google has long focused on improving the experience their users have in their search pages. If you help them do that, you can prevent your top rankings from decaying.

Add High-Caliber Content To Attract Natural Links

Some links need to be built proactively. Others accumulate naturally. With your top-ranking pages, you’ll notice a steady stream of new incoming links appearing on their own. This can be due to a lot of factors, but the most important involve your content and page’s exposure.

You already realize that top listings receive more exposure and clicks than lower listings for any given search query. You also know that good content creates trust in your audience. If people find your pages in the top positions and discover high-quality content, they’ll be more likely to link to those pages on their own sites. This improves your link profile, which in turn, further cements your positions.

Add great content to your top-ranking pages. You’ll attract natural links that strengthen your rankings.

Breaking into the top search positions for your space is only one part of the SEO puzzle. You then need to protect those rankings from decay. The good news is that your effort will help protect the income those rankings are generating.

This is something we should have addressed earlier in the year. But better late than never.

If you have been involved in online marketing for more than a couple of years, you’re familiar with how quickly things change. Marketing strategies that burst onto the scene a few years ago are less effective today. Search engine   optimization tactics that worked phenomenally well in 2008 barely have an impact these days.

If you’re not evolving with these changes, you’ll be left behind.

Today, I’m going to reveal the top 5 online marketing trends for 2010. Can you make money online while ignoring them? Of course. But if you keep the following trends in mind, you’ll make more money while attracting a growing legion of happier customers and affiliates.

#1 – ROI Takes Center Stage

ROI has always been more important than traffic. Bringing 5,000 visitors to your site each day means very little unless they’re buying something or clicking an ad. Likewise, if you’re using PPC to drive traffic, your backend must be able to monetize that traffic over your click costs.

Over the last few years, marketers have realized that traffic does not necessarily mean profit. This trend is going to escalate further as marketers begin to refine their strategies. We’ll see this happening in email, search marketing, social media, and every other channel.

#2 – Local Search Continues To Grow

Local SEO started to gather steam a few years ago. At the time, a lot of the old school search experts ignored it, thinking it was a waste. They’re paying attention now. And so are their clients.

If you’re targeting a location-based niche or you’re doing SEO work for clients, you’ll need to master local search. Many of the same strategies you use to rank your sites in Google’s broad index can be used for their local index. But there are also a host of other tactics exclusive to local SEO. This area is going to heat up.

#3 – Online Marketing Drills Into Micro-Niches

Niches are much easier to serve than trying to appeal to the masses. They’re also easier to target and approach. For example, the weight loss space is more difficult to penetrate than the “losing pregnancy weight after having a baby” niche.

Get ready for your niches to shrink. Tight niches will become tighter. Small niches will contract to micro size. Start thinking about where your market spends its time and create your strategy for reaching them.

This is an exciting trend. Targeting a wide niche is like being a small fish in a large pond. Controlling a micro-niche is like having a small pond to yourself. There’s a lot of money to made there.

#4 – Site Buying And Selling Accelerates

In a recent post, I mentioned that you can buy your way into the top search positions by purchasing aged, authoritative sites. This happens more frequently than a lot of online marketers realize. In fact, marketplace sites like Flippa.com are attracting more attention than ever.

Even though this buying and selling activity has been going on for several years, most of it has been under the radar. That’s already changing. You’re going to witness a flood of people rushing to pick up sites. However, rather than merely buying old sites for quick search positions, marketers will begin picking them up as cash-generating properties (similar to real estate).

#5 – Social Media Focuses On Metrics

When social media marketing first launched out of the gates, everyone with a Facebook account seemed to be an expert. At the time, nobody had the numbers to prove what they were saying, so there was very little accountability.

This too, has begun to change. Social media is maturing and the focus has shifted to the metrics. This means the field of “experts” will begin thinning out as true professionals in the space emerge. They’re the ones to watch.

Online marketing has been evolving from the beginning. But its evolution is about to be thrown into high gear. Keep your eyes on the trends in today’s post and find a way to integrate them into your marketing plan. As I said earlier, there’s a lot of money to be made.

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down and reading Socialnomics by Erik Qualman a book written to help you understand the ins and outs of social media and how it has affected the way the world does business.  Although many of things I have already put into practice there are of ton of things laid out in the book that I plan on incorporating right away.

If you don’t know Social marketing is the process of joining professional and social networking sites for the specific purpose of creating business, driving traffic to your business website and increasing or creating profits.

Social networking often results in:

• Powerful business partnerships

• Customer relationships

• Improved credibility and expert status

• Increased brand awareness

Social marketing is a very powerful tool and it can result in tremendous profits however if approached with the sole purpose of generating profits, efforts may fall short. Here are a few guidelines to get the most from social networking

To find groups to research simply type your industry and the word forum or membership site into your search engine of choice and see what comes up.

Create a profile which tells your story. Your story is your brand, what your business is about. It isn’t a sales page or a pitch, but rather you’re sharing your personality with others. Many small business experts agree – the biggest asset a small business owner has is their personality. It’s one of the motivating triggers for buying behavior – we buy from people or companies we like. Use your personality and social marketing to create a brand image.

Integrate your brand image, your personality, into your marketing strategy and into every marketing piece you use. For example, Dr. Joe Vitale is a motivational speaker, he’s an author, a coach, and myriad other things however his brand is uniquely him and whether he’s posting on a blog or coaching a seminar on attracting wealth he consistently uses the same slogan or catch phrase: “Author of way too many books to mention…”

You can use the same “social marketing” tools to create a community of customers for your own business. This concept of creating a community is the concept of what is commonly referred to as Web 2.0.

The only thing I wish the book had was more pictures through out the book to give it a more visual book on the inside. Other than that a pretty good read.
