What is Rss and Simple syndication?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Welcome back!

What is an RSS Feed?

A common term seen online is “RSS Feed”. However, just what do the letters RSS stand for and what is all the rage surrounding this frequently used term? RSS actually stands for really simple syndication. In this case they are referring to web syndication, which is making the content of a website or blog available for others to use. It is making the feed of a website available for others to access and read elsewhere rather than just from the main web site.

RSS feeds are the way in which a series of blog posts, news stories or headlines, podcasts or other similar content is distributed or syndicated on the Internet. Using a feed makes it easier for a person to access the information in an automated way, using a feedreader or aggregator, such as Google Reader.

There are also desktop readers that will download the information to your computer desktop. Both are merely a type of software that allows you to read RSS feeds all in one place rather than having to hop from blog to blog or news site to news site.

RSS feeds really can simplify the way that you access content across the web. Using an RSS feed reader or aggregator can save you a lot of time when you are wanting to access information. You can subscribe to specific feeds and even categorize them and file them so that you can have easily access to that particular information later, when you’re ready to read up on the news, your favorite blogs, or specific topics related to your business or life.

And, after all that is what the use of RSS feeds is all about making it really simple for people to access the information that they need or making the information that you have for others available to them in a simple manner.

Become a Better Blogger! Day Three

Monday, March 17th, 2008

writingsmall Become a Better Blogger! Day Three Bloggers and all writers need to all learn that writing on the spur of the moment can be a good thing, if it is saved as draft and allowed to come back to at a later time to update the information. The same thing if even more so can apply to bloggers who want to improve on their posts. Writing and saving the information then uploading it for days to come is a great way to add information to posts on a regular basis. It will give your blog the consistency that it needs to be successful as a blogger by keeping great posts. It can also give you as a blogger a break in your regular routine if you plan to take a vacation or something.

Here are some ideas to help you when writing for the internet:

- fresh updated content helps a website work
- don’t overwrite, but be descriptive
- use easy to read fonts, sizes, and colors on the page
- keep it short, get to the point
- make it scanable, use images, bullets, and headlines where appropriate
- use your keywords, but use them naturally don’t stuff
- use small paragraphs and white space to make it easier on the eyes
- write naturally, don’t try to use fancy wording and exaggeration
- write in a conversational style, address the reader
- spell check and clean up your writing
- read aloud to yourself when you’re finished, does it make sense and read smoothly
- sub-headlines help the reader find what they are looking for
- use call to action phrases to get readers to go where you want them to go
