Internet writing for the web and your own personal website is different in some ways, but none the less. Writing strategies are pretty much the same for the internet with a few minor exceptions. But the main thing to remember is that you are writing for a large audience. People that are coming to you for advice on how to do something or learn something important from you, and it is your responsibility to fulfill that need.
So why write for the internet and what benefit can writing for your audiences do for you and your website?
Well for one the constant creation of fresh updated content helps a website to build pages and continually overtime. Increasing your chances of being found on the internet and delivers much needed information to your target audience. But how do you write to keep them coming back for more.
Well for one thing your writing skill is not something to be concerned about in the beginning. Don’t overwrite as if trying to sound like someone your not or overly descriptive when it comes to choosing certain words. Use easy to read fonts and sizes and colors on the page, especially if you have a blog since this is one well known strategy in internet writing.
You only have a short amount of time to get across what you have to say since the attention span of people browsing the internet is much shorter compared to regular reading.
Try to keep your information short and to the point because people are at your site are only there for a short period of time then they are to the next main thing. Keep your web content scannable with easy to see bullets, images and headlines when appropriate.
Because this keeps the information in a systematic format, and makes it easier for them to get the meaning of your article a lot quicker.
Here are some main tips to consider when writing for the web.
• Write naturally without using fancy exaggerations
• Write in a conversational style and address the reader
• Use sub-headlines for internet writing
• Use call to action phrases such as “see here now” or “Click Me”
• Use keywords naturally with out overstuffing
• Write with smaller paragraphs and read your work over when complete
Website writing is something that is really easy and when put into practice. Your web content and writing skills for the internet will improve over time. However in the long run it will keep your visitors longer absorbing the information you have to offer them.
